The part that decides if it lasts.
Every coating we install starts with the same first question: what is actually underneath it. Concrete repair and prep is the diamond grinding, crack and spall repair, and moisture testing that happens before a single coat of resin goes down — and on a slab with real damage or moisture issues, it is the work that determines whether the finished floor lasts twenty years or blisters loose in two.
This is not an optional add-on we upsell after the fact. It is included in every system on this site. We separate it out on its own page because some jobs are prep-only: a slab going under tile, wood-look flooring, or someone else’s finish still needs a real moisture test, and a slab with active damage sometimes needs repair addressed on its own timeline before any finish decision gets made.

Moisture you can't see from the surface.
Concrete slabs on grade constantly move water vapor up through the surface, and Valley slabs — especially homes built before the 2000s, when vapor barriers under a slab were less consistently used — often push more of it than people expect. If a coating goes down over a slab emitting more moisture than the system can tolerate, the coating does not fail immediately. It blisters or delaminates from underneath, months or years later, in a way that is expensive and disruptive to fix after the fact.
That is why we test moisture before we quote a coating, not after we have installed one. If a slab tests within a normal range, we proceed with standard prep. If it tests high, we price a mitigating primer into the system. And if a slab is pushing moisture at a level no primer can responsibly handle, we tell you that directly. Coating over a slab that is going to push moisture through it does not fail today — it fails from underneath, where you cannot see it forming, and we would rather lose that job than sell you a floor built to blister.
03 / THE PROCESS

Diamond grinding, not acid etching
Mechanical grinding opens the concrete’s pore structure so a coating bonds into it. Acid etching only lightly roughens the surface chemically and does not create the same mechanical key — it is a common reason DIY and low-bid jobs peel first.

Crack chasing & polyurea fill
Cracks are routed out to a clean edge, then filled with a flexible polyurea that moves with the slab instead of a rigid filler that cracks again in the same spot.

Spall repair
Spalled or flaking concrete is cut back to sound material and rebuilt with a bonded repair mortar before grinding continues, so the coating sits on solid concrete, not a patch resting on a weak edge.

Moisture vapor testing
We test the slab’s moisture emission rate before quoting a coating. A reading too high for a standard system gets flagged before anything else is scheduled.

Moisture mitigation primers
When testing calls for it, a vapor-blocking primer goes down first, sealing moisture drive from underneath before the base coat and topcoat go on top of it.

01 Why grind instead of acid etch?
Grinding mechanically opens the concrete for a real bond. Acid etching only lightly roughens the surface and does not create the same mechanical key, which is a common reason low-bid and DIY coatings peel first.
02 What is a spalled slab, and can it be fixed?
Spalling is flaking or crumbling at the concrete surface, usually from corrosion, freeze-thaw, or years of wear. It is cut back to sound material and rebuilt with a bonded repair mortar before grinding continues.
03 What happens if my slab fails a moisture test?
A high reading gets a mitigating primer priced into the system. If the reading is beyond what any primer can responsibly handle, we tell you directly, before you pay for anything else — we would rather lose the job than sell you a floor built to blister.
04 Do you do prep-only work, without installing a coating?
Yes. Grinding, crack repair, and moisture testing and mitigation are all available as standalone services for a slab headed toward tile, wood-look flooring, or someone else’s finish.
