Patio & pool deck coatings
Slip-resistant underfoot, sealed against monsoon rain and pool chemicals, and formulated to hold color through direct desert sun instead of chalking after two summers.
01 / WHAT IT IS
Built for outside, not adapted for it.
A patio or pool deck coating is an exterior-rated resin system, built on the same prep-first principles as our interior floors but formulated differently: UV-stable pigments and resins, a slip-resistant texture broadcast in place of decorative flake, and, on pool decks, chemical resistance to chlorine and other pool chemicals. It seals the slab against water intrusion while staying cool enough underfoot to walk on barefoot in July.
Bare or painted exterior concrete in the Valley tends to fail the same way: sun bleaches and chalks the surface, monsoon rain finds every hairline crack, and pool chemicals eat through anything not formulated to resist them. An exterior coating system addresses all three at once instead of patching them separately.
02 / IN ARIZONA
Sun, monsoon, and chlorine.
Exterior slabs take the harshest version of every stress an interior floor faces. Direct summer sun runs longer and hotter than anything a garage door lets in, so UV-stable pigment and resin are not optional here the way they might be debated indoors. Monsoon season adds sudden, heavy rain onto a hot slab and repeated wet-dry cycling that works cracks open faster than a mild climate would.
A pool deck adds chlorine, sunscreen, and standing water at the coping edge to that list — and bare feet, which means slip resistance is not a cosmetic preference but a real safety requirement. We build exterior systems with a textured broadcast specifically for that, not a smooth clear coat that looks good dry and turns dangerous wet.
03 / THE SYSTEM
Built for outside.
- 01
Diamond-ground or profiled slab
Exterior slabs are ground or chemically profiled to open the surface the same way an interior floor is, so the coating bonds instead of sitting on top and peeling under sun and rain.

- 02
Crack & control-joint repair
Exterior slabs move more than interior ones between temperature swings and expansive soil. Cracks are chased and filled with a flexible material that moves with the slab instead of cracking again in the same spot.
- 03
UV-stable polyaspartic base coat
Formulated to stay flexible and hold color through direct desert sun and monsoon humidity, without the shelter an interior floor gets.

- 04
Slip-resistant texture broadcast
A fine aggregate or textured additive is broadcast into the base coat in place of decorative flake, so the surface stays slip-resistant barefoot, wet, and around a pool.

- 05
Clear, chlorine- and UV-stable topcoat
Carries the color and texture through pool chemicals, sunscreen, and years of direct sun without yellowing.

Inspect & test
Slab condition, drainage, cracks, and existing coatings or sealers are checked before scheduling.

Grind & repair
Surface profiling and crack repair, weather-dependent for exterior work.
- 03 ~1 day
Base coat & texture broadcast
The UV-stable base goes down with the slip-resistant texture broadcast into it.
- 04 ~1 day
Topcoat
The chlorine- and UV-stable clear topcoat seals the system.

Return to service
Foot traffic once cured; keep the pool closed until the coating has fully hardened near the coping.
06 / COST
What an exterior system runs.
Typical range
$5–$9?
per sq ft installed
Exterior coatings, including patios, pool decks, driveways, and walkways, typically fall in a similar per-square-foot range, and move most with square footage, texture level, and how much crack or spall repair the slab needs before coating.

Questions about patios & pool decks.
01 Will the deck be too hot to walk on barefoot?
Lighter colors and a matte or satin finish keep surface temperatures noticeably cooler than a dark, glossy coating. We can walk you through color options with heat gain in mind at the estimate.
02 Will pool chemicals damage the coating?
No — exterior pool deck systems use a chlorine-resistant topcoat specifically because splash-out and chemical exposure at the coping is expected, not an edge case.
03 Can you install right before monsoon season?
We plan exterior installs around the forecast — the coating needs a dry cure window. We will tell you honestly if your timeline needs to shift around expected rain rather than risk the install.
04 Is the surface slippery when wet?
No — that is specifically what the slip-resistant texture broadcast is for. A smooth clear coat is not something we install on a pool deck or wet-prone patio.
