01 / WHAT IT IS

A poured resin art piece.

Metallic epoxy is a decorative finish, not a separate resin chemistry. Metallic pigments are suspended in a clear or lightly tinted epoxy base and manipulated while it is still wet — with air, tools, or additives that push the pigment into cells, veins, and swirls — before it cures in place. The result is a floor with real depth and movement, closer to a poured resin art piece than a painted surface.

Because the effect depends on how the wet resin moves in the moment, every metallic floor is genuinely unique. We show physical samples so you know the color family and general character you are choosing, but the exact pattern on your floor cannot be pre-planned tile by tile — that unpredictability is the appeal, not a defect.

02 / IN ARIZONA

Best kept out of direct sun.

Metallic epoxy floors are almost always an interior application — showrooms, retail, game rooms, and shop floors without direct sun exposure — which sidesteps epoxy’s biggest Arizona weakness. UV yellowing and hot-tire pickup are largely non-issues in a space with no direct sun and light, even traffic. Where a metallic floor does need to hold up is under bright interior lighting and heavy foot or light vehicle traffic without dulling the color depth over years, which is what a well-chosen topcoat is for.

If you want a metallic look in a space that does see direct sun — a covered patio, a garage with a door that catches afternoon light — talk to us before you commit. We may recommend a UV-stable topcoat upgrade, or steer you toward a different exterior-rated finish that gets closer to the same visual effect without the long-term sun exposure risk.

    A high-clarity polyaspartic or epoxy topcoat locks the pattern in place and adds depth and gloss without disturbing the metallic swirl underneath.

Color, pattern, gloss.

  • Color families

    Silvers, charcoals, blues, and warm bronze and copper tones are the most requested. We bring sample boards so you see the actual pigment movement, not a rendering.

  • Pattern intensity

    More airflow and pigment manipulation during application produces bolder cells and veining; a calmer application yields a subtler, more uniform pearlescent finish.

  • Gloss level

    A high-gloss topcoat is the most common choice — it is what gives the metallic effect its depth — though a satin finish is available for a more restrained look.

  • Accent borders

    A solid-color or contrasting border around a metallic field, common in showroom and retail installs to frame the floor within a room.

Questions about metallic floors.

01 Can I choose exactly what the pattern looks like?

You can choose the color family and general intensity, but the exact cells and veining form live as the resin cures — that is inherent to the effect. Sample boards show you the character to expect, not a guaranteed replica.

02 Is a metallic floor as durable as a standard flake floor?

The topcoat carries the same abrasion and chemical resistance as our other systems. The base coat itself is thicker to allow room for the pigment effect, which if anything adds durability under the same wear layer.

03 Where do metallic floors make the most sense?

Interior spaces without direct sun exposure — showrooms, retail, game rooms, offices, and shop floors — where the visual effect is the priority and UV is not a factor.

04 Can a metallic finish go outdoors?

We generally recommend against it without a UV-stable topcoat upgrade and a conversation about sun exposure first — direct sun is the fastest way to dull a metallic floor’s color depth over time.
